Type 6 MAX Train

Type 6 MAX Train

Hello! This is TriMet insider where we talk about all things TriMet. If you don't know, TriMet is Portland's public transit system. Personaly, I love riding the MAX (Metropolitan Area eXpress) Train, which goes all the way from Beaverton to City Center to Milwaukie, it's awesome! Anyway. Today I wanted to talk about my excitements and de-excitements about the new type 6 train (I'm really not sure if there is actually one on the rails yet...) I Google searched a bit and all of the info was really quite vague. Stuff like: "We expect to have the first Type 6 train in service in 2024." So, it's really not very obvious when we'll be riding one, but I felt like looking at it's pros and cons.

I figured I'd start with pros, so here's the list I made:

  • Has a driver's cabin on both sides
  • Has better heating for cold days on the tracks
  • Has more LED lights for indication of whether or not door is available
  • Has super cool LED doors
  • Has super cool Next Stop screens that display the next stop, and the three following ones
So, those were the pros I came up with, but here is the one con I came up with:
  • (My Opinion) Does not look as good as previous generations. I prefer the type 4 train's super rounded front/back. The type 6 looks almost identical to type 5, which has a still rounded, but less rounded front/back
Thanks for reading my blog today! I'll be back with more TriMet Insider soon. (Pictures were from TriMet's Instagram video touring the new type 6 train, which you can find here)
